Pioneer, one of the largest audio and video product manufacturers in the world, will showcase the Blu-Ray Player next week in Brazil, during the Hi-Fi Show 2008. The Blu-Ray Player will arrive in the Brazilian and Latin American markets in October. The Hi-Fi Show 2008 will take place on September 24-27, at the Anhembi Conventions Palace (Palácio de Convenções do Anhembi) and the Holiday Inn in São Paulo.

Blu-Ray discs will further strengthen the trend of going to the movies at home. With their 1080p, the discs will raise the standard in home imaging to unprecedented levels. Pioneer's players are the first in the global market to provide 24 frames per second, which translates into the same quality that the movie industry offers.

With a minimum 25GB, the storage capacity in Blu-Ray discs is enormous, turning Blu-Ray into a unique experience. In the United States, Europe and Japan, the use of the Blu-Ray Player is already a reality, and film production companies have already launched their main titles with this new technology.

The appearance of Blu-Ray in the market reminds us of the technological switch from VCR to DVD. So, why would the public decide to invest in another technology and replace their DVD players? Kazumi Takenaka, General Marketing Director, Pioneer International Latin America S.A. assures us that the issue here is quality: “Movie lovers will invest in a player with the best technology available in the market in order to continue going to the movies at home to see their favorite films. The same thing happened during the migration from VHS to DVD. The difference, however, is that in the current change no one will have to give up their DVD collections, because Blu-Ray Players also work with DVDs.”

Pioneer is planning to launch a more affordable line focusing on the general public.

Blu-Ray is synonymous with High Definition (HD), a revolution of the TV image that is already a reality in several countries. "The situation in our Region is not too far from the widespread use of HDTV," said Takenaka. "Several countries are already converting their analog signals into High Definition signals. And, with the help of the Internet, consumers are able to learn more about the technologies in other parts of the globe. In other words, it is often clients themselves who are demanding the launch of a new technology."

During the Hi-Fi Show 2008, visitors can take a closer look at the Blu-Ray technology at SLM Brazil's booth, which will also be available in Argentina, Peru, Colombia and Venezuela. "The trend is strong. Each country is starting to enter the high-quality digital broadcast era. The situation is very similar in key Latin American countries. In addition, consumers can have peace of mind with respect to protection of their investments — we do not foresee a new technology surpassing Blu-Ray in the near future.  One thing is for sure: Blu-Ray is here to stay," added Takenaka.

ü      Blu-Ray BDP-LX71 Player – Not merely a player with new Blu-Ray technology, this sophisticated player includes audio processors (Wolfsom Audio DACS and 117db SNR) and superior quality video (12bit deep true HD / 24fps).
