With Blu-Ray, Latin America Reaches HD Quality

In October, Pioneer Will Launch Its Blu-Ray Players in the Region
These Systems Provide Movie-Theater-Quality Home Entertainment Operating at 24 Frames per Second

The Blu-Ray dream, which seemed distant not too long ago, is now turning into reality in Latin America. This will become crystal clear next October, when Pioneer, a world leader in this technology, will launch its Blu-Ray Players in the Region.

With 1080p Definition, Blu-Ray discs raise the standard in home video quality to levels never seen before, reinforcing the trend of enjoying movie-theater-quality videos at home. And Pioneer Players are the first to operate at 24 frames per second—the same quality offered by the movie industry.

With a minimum of 25GB, Blu-Ray discs' huge storage capabilities will enable us to discover new details in our most cherished films, among other things. Yes, we will be watching the same timeless movies, but now there is no need to compress the film, giving us the purest image on our screens.

This is why the Blu-Ray experience is unique. Thousands of viewers know this and have adopted it in the United States, Europe, and Japan, where Pioneer is one of the leaders. For this reason, and to fully maximize the potential of movies, producers have launched many main titles with this new technology.

By replacing the DVD, Blu-Ray stars in the technological shift of our time. What pushes people to make an investment and replace their player? Kazumi Takenaka, General Manager of the Marketing Department at Pioneer International Latin America S.A., has no doubts—quality is the determining factor. "Movie lovers will invest in a current player to continue buying the titles they love and watch them like in movie theaters—just as they did when we moved from VHS to DVD. The difference from that shift, however, is that now they will not lose their collections, because Blu-Ray Players also work with DVDs." In addition, Pioneer plans to launch a line with a lower price base in the future, aimed at a mass audience.

In short, Blu-Ray is synonym with High Definition (HD), a revolution in TV image, which is already a reality in many countries. And Latin America is getting closer to it. "This reality is not too far away. Many countries in Latin America are converting their analog signals to high definition signals. And with the help of the Internet, many consumers are researching technologies in other parts of the world. Oftentimes, clients are the ones demanding we come up with new technologies," said Takenaka.

With this perspective in mind, Pioneer will come to the Region in October—particularly to Argentina, Brazil, Peru, Colombia, and Venezuela. "The trend is solid. Each country is beginning to enter the digital broadcast era with high quality images. And this is the case in main Latin American countries," added Takenaka.

Blu-Ray is the new standard in home video image. According to Takenaka, consumers can put their minds at ease in terms of investment protection: "We don't foresee another technology overcoming Blu-Ray in the near future. We are confident. Blu-Ray is here to stay."
